Adam Likes Magic
Hi. I’m Adam. I’ve been playing Magic: The Gathering for the better part of 30 years. Like many long-time players, I’ve taken years-long breaks, only to be dragged back to the cardboard crack – usually involving some mental health breakdown. After three decades playing the game, I thought it might be fun to start creating Magic: The Gathering content… so here I am.
My life hasn’t been easy. I was raised by a neglectful and often abusive mother who suffered from opiate addiction. My childhood was full of trauma, including kidnapping, sexual assault, and violence.
When I was about thirteen, I discovered Magic: The Gathering through a neighborhood friend. We spend the next decade in comic and card shops, at kitchen tables, and breaking out decks at random restaurants.
Adulthood got in the way of hobbies and I took about 10 years off – getting my fix through random games on Cockatrice from time to time… but never diving back in. Then in 2012 that same childhood friend and I decided to check out a local comic shop. I was sucked back in. For the next three years I’d spend my weekends at Bell’s Comics and Cards in Grove City, PA grinding away at Friday Night Magic. In 2014 I’d go on to Top 8 states in Pennsylvania.
Life came at me hard again. Two divorces. Homelessness. Addiction of my own. But my life is on a better path now and I’ve been back to my hobby for a few years now – primarily playing on Magic Arena. Now I’m getting back into cards too… and hopefully with that, I find some of the healing that I know I deserve.
Thank you for following my journey.
